It is our aim that children will leave Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School with appreciation of and passion for literature which will provide the foundations for future learning and enjoyment.
Children across all year groups, access a broad range of high-quality texts, both fictional and non-fictional. Story-telling is given prominence within all classes and all children are encouraged to read widely for pleasure and enjoyment.
We believe that reading is the gateway for children that makes learning possible. Here at Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School everybody is a reader.
Reading for Pleasure celebrated in school!
We are proud to announce we have been awarded the Lincolnshire Reading Pledge Silver award!
The Lincolnshire Reading Pledge has been developed by Witham St Hugh’s English Hub and L.E.A.D. Teaching School Hub.
As you know, at Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School, we value the importance of Reading for Pleasure and the positive impact it can have on our pupils’ lives. The ultimate aim of the Lincolnshire Reading Pledge is to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, needs or abilities, becomes a confident, fluent and enthusiastic reader. There really is no greater gift we can give to our children as a school and as parents.
To achieve the award staff and pupils worked towards meeting a range of criteria throughout the academic year.
Thank you to everyone who supported our World Book Day, shared reading days, Poetry day, and Shakespeare week which helped towards the achievement. All our children have made a fantastic contribution towards our school attaining this award - thank you and well done to them all!
We look forward to continuing our Reading Pledge journey next year and marching on towards Gold!
